"It seems to me the northern route would take us closer to our destination," says Brother Tysis looking at the map while sipping on his mead. "Either way it could be quite perilous in the wilds. I see no roads or paths which may mean we may have to make our own way."

Largo watches and waits till he can get a look at the map. He grabs it and points his grubby finger along like he knows what he is doing.

Bumblemug, the dwarf who drew the map laughs at some of the ideas.
"You best be prepared any route you take. That town to the north, some say haunted ruins. I been nearby and have heard strange sounds at night. The direct route will take you through bogs and there is a strange forest no matter what way you go. To go south and angle back north might be the longest choice, and some say that there is a hobgoblin tribe down that-a-way that will allow some to pass and some not to, depending on what the traveler gives the hobgoblins. I'd take advantage of Frovis' gifts and wend my way cautiously to the ruins. After you leave I will send word to the dwarf king and see what rewards he can offer for information."

Darius, Human Magic-user

"Hmm...that's what I was afraid of. Haunted Ruins to the North, Goblins of some kind to the South, and a Fire Swamp in the middle. Bumblemug, assuming all goes well, how many days travel would it be straight across as compared with going around to either the North or the South?"

Glugrig frowns at the map. "I don't swim. And I don't like ghosts either. But hobgoblins don't scare me. I bet we can bribe them with shinies."

"Perhaps a few coin may allow us past the goblins and perhaps not. I don't see any of us with much coin in our purses to allow passage. I would feel safer passing through the ruins to the north." Brother Tysis says as he fingers the amulet around his neck of his deity.

"Then let us go north. The trip around the bogs and fens that lie between us and our goal may give us some sense of what we're heading in to and will give us an opportunity to get to know each other better."

The day of your departure is slightly overcast. A small group of villagers see you all off, Frovis has given everyone an extra three days of cured meat and waterskin.
Heading north is fairly uneventful, but everyone notices as you get farther from Green Grove that the edges of the bogs begin to look a bit sinister and an odd yipping sound can be heard from at least two different directions. The eerie feeling of being watched dampens the mood a bit.

(ooc- as far as deities, feel free to use any deity that you choose, make one up, or find one somewhere)
